I believed that everyone was a suspect, and the supernatural aspect was an interesting enough angle to add in some intrigue since Nancy Drew content historically excluded supernatural “solutions.” The end of the episode also had significant enough ramifications that I was invested in continuing watching. As far as the plot-a town folktale coming to life to commit a similarly suspicious murder-it was an engaging enough premise that was more than just a generic murder-mystery. TV-14 sex scenes involving my childhood hero were unappealing without the jarring way the scene was incorporated into the pilot. It was these shows that then paved the way for DC licensing deals for superhero content ( Flash, Archer, Supergirl) as well as licensed reboot content like Riverdale, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Nancy Drew.Īs someone who grew up obsessed with Nancy Drew, I had high expectations for this show it at least didn’t take me long to be disappointed and to give up hope.
